What causes hair loss?
Permanent hair loss is generally caused by a genetic condition called Male Pattern Baldness. As this is a dominant character trait, once in the family the trait will be passed down from generation to generation. Though it may skip a generation, it remains in the family. Other factors, such as injury or disease may contribute to hair loss that can be reversed with hair restoration procedures.
Does wearing a hat or poor hair care contribute to hair loss?
Generally no, unless illness is present. Hair growth is permanent unless otherwise genetically programmed.
Does it hurt?
Once local anesthetic is administered you will feel nothing but the sensation of touch, no pain!
Does it grow?
Yes, it is your own hair simply relocated from the back and sides where it is genetically programmed to grow permanently and is now moved to front or top.
How long does it last?
It is permanent, by virtue of the genetic programming inherent in the hair follicle once moved it retains all of the exact same characteristics.
How long does it take?
An average session is between 3-4 hours. You will be awake and usually just watching television.
How long from surgery to see the results?
New hair starts to grow in as little as 10 weeks at a rate of about ½ to ¾ inch per month. A combable result will take about 5-6 months.
How long does the post op healing take?
Usually 2 days of down time is appropriate following surgery, superficial healing takes about 10-14 days and as stated above, growth starts in about 3 months.
How does it look while healing?
Your general appearance post op will depend on the amount of hair you currently have in the area to be replaced. A period of a rash like healing will take place on the grafted area and will require about 10 days to disappear. This may be visible if the area is exposed, if currently covered it will not be. Every effort will be used to not disturb existing growing hair.
How much does it cost?
Fees are based on size of the pattern and extent of work to be performed.
