Procedure Day Itinerary:
When you arrive for your first transplant procedure, you can expect the following series of steps.
Dr. Glat and the staff will review with you your treatment plan and medical history. A hair transplant is a very simple safe out patient surgery. Current good health and a reasonable medical history will generally insure you are a candidate for the procedure.

The area of concern will be prepared. Should the area of concern involve the frontal hairline, discussion will center on creating a new hairline specifically designed for your facial shape.
Donor site preparation involves selecting a small band of hair from the back and/or sides of the scalp containing healthy permanent growing hair follicles. This band or strip will be harvested, dissected and placed in the areas to be restored. Only hair destined to be moved will be trimmed, all other existing hair will be carefully spared to ensure coverage during the post op healing.
A local anesthetic will be administered making both donor and recipient areas totally numb. Once numb no sensation other than touch will be experienced during the balance of the process. You may watch a movie or television while your procedure is performed.

The donor strip will be removed and the site sutured closed using a simple running suture. While healing this suture line is coved by the upper overhanging hair. In approximately one week those structures will be removed leaving only a very fine scar buried within the hair.
The strip is now dissected into naturally occurring follicular units or bundles containing 1-4 hairs. While the hairline requires great subtlety and therefore single hair grafts, a mid pattern area requires more density and therefore multi-haired grafts.
Once prepared these grafts are now skillfully placed into very tiny incisions created to reproduce exactly the angle and direction of hair growth just as Mother Nature had originally intended. Once fully grown in, it’s your hair, full and natural, with the only necessary maintenance being a haircut.
The whole process will usually take several hours, that to be determined by the number of grafts performed and areas involved. A team of approximately 5 will be involved in your surgery to make the process as smooth as possible.
